Meet the chefs that will be performing this year

Gareth Johns

Gareth Johns is Chef/Proprietor of the Wynnstay Hotel, Machynlleth, and is one of only a few certified Master Chefs working outside London. He believes fervently in culinary education, saying that 'knowledge not shared is wasted', and to that end is a follower of the Slow Food(tm) movement, with its emphasis on 'Good, Clean and Fair' food, being currently leader of the Dyfi Valley Convivium.

Nick Davies

Nick Davies is the director of Welshmeatonline which sources quality local Welsh Lamb & Beef which is processed at the Cambrian Training Centre of Excellence for Butchery and Culinary skills, Welshpool then distributed to various retail and hospitality business throughout Wales. Nick has been a competing member of the award winning Welsh National Culinary Team for over 15 years and has won WACS gold medals. Nick competed in the World Association of Chefs Societies European heat of the Global Chefs Challenge held in Dublin during February which he was runner up only losing by ½ point but achieving an individual WACS gold medal and winning the overall hygiene award, the competition is the most prestigious World Chefs competition.

Mike Bates

Member of the Welsh Culinary Team, Winner of National Tourism Awards of Wales, Wales Chefs Skills 2007. Mike Bates has worked as Executive Chef of 5 star properties within Wales for the passed 7 years, including Hurst House Hotel, Carmarthen, St. Davids Hotel and Spa, Cardiff & Celtic Manor resort, Newport. Now Mike is busy as a Consultant chef and at the moment he is working on his latest project in London.

Colin Gray

Colin Gray, Director of Capital Cuisine, chairman of the Welsh Culinary Association’s southern region, consultant chef to the Welsh Assembly Government and multi award winning member of the Welsh National Culinary team for the last 16 years. Colin will demonstrate the dying art of pulled and blown sugar with a hands on master class which will leave your hands glowing from the heat.
